Happy Fiesta Quiapo!

>> 1/09/2010

So sad that I wasn't able to witness this special event that has been a part of my life for such a long time. I miss the place, people I grew up with like my neighbors, friends and acquaintances who has been a part of my life in quiapo too. My childhood and teenage years there are really full of fond memories that will forever cherish. I just hope that the government will took actions about the problems that this place is facing. Also the historical places and houses should be given enough priority and hope that those will be preserved. Despite negative things associated with quiapo, no doubt that living there made me who I am today at some part.

We went to my parent's place last Saturday as it is my nephews' 3rd birthday. We just ordered brownies as a gift for him, wasn't able to take some photos because I had terrible headache then. ordered this for dwayne:

Brownies from desserts plus

Nadeform lang ang icings kasi walang partitions in between nagdidikit pag naalog. lol. what's worst is that when we reached our parent's place, it looked messed up because I was carrying the box upside down. ahaha. Oh well, masarap pa din naman.

Goodbye 346 Farnecio St., Quiapo Manila...

>> 9/18/2008

This has been my favorite part of the house in Quiapo, I've lived and basically grew up there. spending 17 years in this house (we moved there when I was 7 till I moved to Mandaluyong at 24 then) just like being in love and broken hearted, one has to leave and moved on... And I remember how it breaks my heart and had this heavy feeling when I first leave then and transferred to Mandaluyong. Now, time has come that my parents will be totally moving out there. No matter how "bulok" it is, still it has created an impact on who I am right now, the memories of our stay there will be forever remembered and cherished. I am a totally "batang Quiapo" So to speak, but not a madurukot huh?! hehehe. I graduated at Quiapo Parochial School. took up elementary and high school, It was run by the Sisters of St. Paul then. I remember that our Principal would always regard us as the Paulinians. Oh diba? and even sings the Paulinian hymn.. "Hark Sons and Daughters of St. Paul." But Quiapo Pachial School has changed its name into the Black Nazarene when something controversial happened after I graduated there and is now handled by the Quiapo church administration and no longer the sisters of St. Paul. Sabi nga nila, Quiapo daw is the counterpart of Tondo. I know, I know... Many stories has been said about Quiapo, the famous movie of late Fernando Poe Jr. and Maricel Soriano. If you want low priced cameras, just look for Hidalgo street near the Quiapo Church and beside the church are those vendors selling herbal medicines.. Oh well, I remember before I was pregnant with gabby, while passing by the quiapo church, one vendor approached me and said " Ma'm CYTOTEC ka? " I was like, "Hellllo??? Mukha ba akong magpapalaglag sa laki ng tiyan ko? was eight mos. pregnant then. Ian couldn't help but laugh out. And the ever famous line whenever you pass by the Muslim area in Barbosa street, "Dibidi, dibidi, dibidi" . And this I will truly miss every year...

" Fiesta alay sa Mahal na Poon ng Nazareno"
But we will still be present there every year in devotion to the black Nazarene... No matter what happens. Quiapo will always be forever in my heart.

On Halloween Costumes

>> 8/20/2008

This week is Gabby's first summative exams and when she asked me to read her assignment notebook, there was note from her teacher that there will be a PTA meeting by next month and one of the things to be discussed is about their costumes to be worn on their Halloween party. Yes, as early as August all details about the programs are to be discuss already to avoid any delays most especially on Halloween costume safety which is very delicate due to props to be used and so forth including Christmas party and others. On their last year's party, her Halloween costume is so boring because I wasn't able to reserve the cutest one for her. This time she wanted a princess costume and a pink one to be specific. ahahaha. My daughter really do love princess stories nowadays.

I am now eyeing on this two princess costumes that I have found on
http://www.costumecauldron.com

Gabby was so giggly as she saw this cute pink costume that comes with a tiara. She told me that this will look good on her. Good thing that it was on long sleeves because it is cold in their performance hall.

But i also like this blue Cinderella costume for her, The fluffy lower part really gives this dress a princess look. and this will perfectly suits Gabby well if it is to be paired with this

Cinderella wig... perfect right?!

Thanks to the electric fan for drying off my shirt and pants for almost 2 hours including my undies! how's that naman di ba?!.... grrrr...

The Eye Contact

>> 5/06/2008

I'm so used in wearing my ever reliable eyeglasses, I have been wearing one since I was in Grade 6. I had a 250 grade back then and now it goes up to 550! but then wearing eyeglasses had created a "nerd" impression in me. They thought that i was so serious and "masungit". And wearing eyeglasses on special occasions was so absurd, imagine me during my JS PROM in high school wearing my baby blue gown and my so out-fashioned eyeglasses then.

After college, I decided to try contacts. But wearing one is so time consuming, and my eyes would easily gets tired and itchy after wearing it for a couple of hours not to mention that it's so uncomfortable since I am always in front of the computer. And so i resorted to wearing my eyeglasses again but i still do have my contacts just for" special occasion" use only! HAHAHA!

Just this morning when I checked on my contacts, I found out that It was already broken. I wasn't able to clean it kasi for quite sometime! ahehehe. Well, I think I need to undergo Laser eye treatment in the near future. That is if i have enough budget by then! hahaha!

Here are some pointers in wearing Contact lenses:

  • Always wash and rinse your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses and dry your hands with a lint-free towel/tissue before touching your lenses. Clearer soaps are better since they contain less lanolin that can smear the contact lens surface. Avoid liquid soaps. Pears is the best.

  • All traces of soap, perfumes, hair sprays, creams and lotions should be removed from your hands and around the eyes.

  • Keep your nails trimmed and clean – long fingernails can tear or split contact lenses.

  • Avoid picking up lenses with your fingernails – they can only be held safely between the fingertips or with soft plastic tipped tweezers specially designed for contact lenses.

  • Do not touch your lenses with sharp, pointed objects (fingernails, pens, etc).

  • Make sure lenses do not get caught on the edge of storage cases. Tapping the lens case on the table before screwing the top on will help completely submerse the contact lenses in solution.

  • Never allow lenses to dry out and never try to insert them when they are in a dehydrated state.

  • Do not use the lens if the pack is open or damaged.

  • Never use expired lenses or solutions.

Important Things to Remember:

  • Discontinue lens wear if you experience persistent discomfort, redness or blurred vision and consult your practitioner.

  • Lenses may become contaminated if worn in swimming pools or saunas.

  • Unless advised by your practitioner, lenses should not be worn while sleeping.

  • Extended wear lenses for overnight wear require special instructions from your practitioner.

  • Lenses must be stored wet. If they dry out, soak lenses in saline or soaking solution for one hour until they return to a soft state. Then clean and disinfect as normal before using again.

  • It is not advisable to wear lenses during periods of illness such as colds, influenza etc.

  • Always use fresh solution. Do not use expired solutions/re-wetting eye drops/tear lubricants.

  • Discard the lenses as recommended by your practitioner.

  • Remove lenses before using medicated eye drops, undergoing surgery or anaesthesia.

  • While wearing lenses, do not use any eye drops other than those, which your practitioner may recommend. Consult your eye care practitioner if in doubt.

Summer is really here!

>> 3/24/2008

We were in Quiapo last Holy Thursday up until Easter Sunday... we just watched the Black Nazarene's procession on Good Friday as it passes by in front of our house at 6:30 in the morning!

We went to church that afternoon but we were not able to hear mass because we hardly can't breath as there are tons of people inside the church! The kids had their marathon of Disney's programs. Ian had his recipes run out, as he does all the cooking for 3 days. My Nanay loves all the meals we had the entire 3 days of our stay. I helped out in cleaning the house. Went back to mandaluyong last sunday. And I'm now back at the office! Gabby stays in Quiapo as they are headed to Eco Park today w/ her cousins. And it's really getting hot outside....
